Muskogee Phoenix - Nov. 15, 2017
The 38th annual Bedouin Shrine Classic will almost beat the New Year this time around.
With Jan. 1 being a Monday with schools out and in order to keep its first full week in January, the tournament will be played Tuesday through Saturday, Jan. 2-6, including the normal off day of Wednesday.
Shrine large school entries include host Muskogee, Jenks, Green Country Defenders, Providence Academy (Rogers, Ark.) and Edmond Santa Fe in both boys and girls. Tulsa McLain boys, Oklahoma City Southeast boys and Next Level Prep (Kan.) round out the boys' bracket while Carl Albert, Sand Springs, and Sequoyah finish out the girls.
Sequoyah moves up after winning the Small School bracket last year. Jenks and Southeast along with Sand Springs and Providence were part of last year’s slate before icy weather halted the large school division. The Tulsa-based Green Country homeschool program goes to the large schools after a season in the small schools, where Okay, Spiro, Oktaha, Red Oak, Sequoyah, Warner, Porter, and Haskell will play both boys and girls. Sequoyah’s JV will compete on the girls' small school side. Okay’s boys are defending champion.
The schedules will be released in a few weeks.Muskogee boys and Sand Springs girls are the top seeds in large school division while Sequoyah boys and Spiro girls are tops in the small school group.
